First things first: A student must be 18 years old to legally be able to consent to a relationship with an adult.Beyond that, some schools have specific rules about what to do if a student and a professor want to pursue a romantic relationship.
Many schools look down on professor/student dating because of these reasons.
Additionally, other students may perceive you as having an unfair advantage because you are, by nature, closer to at least one member of the faculty.
But I also know moping about them won’t change anything. For anyone that isn’t clear on this, grad school isn’t particularly friendly to dating.
(At least in science/engineering/mathematics grad school, which is the assumption I have for the entire post.) There are so many reasons for this that it’s hard to know where to begin.
